Monday

im stuck in a time machine

and all i have is kaleidoscope eyes, and your
fragile fingers. and knowing in the back of my
mind that i will never grow up (old and boring,
thinking that life is only about getting up in the
morning, working, sleeping). all i know how to
do well is to be youthful.

what if time machines really do exist? just not as we think we know them. what if time machines are all in our heads, they are the desire to stay young and never lose wonder. i am a living time machine and i will never grow old. i wouldn't be very good at it anyway.

i got a message from starfire today:

"i have something to ask you (:

1. what is your phobia
2. tell me one thing that you love, that defines you very well
3. if you were anything else, not human, what would you be?

you're a person i'd like to hear these answers from."

and my answers:

one. some mornings i wake up and i am most afraid of being lost in the ocean, other mornings i don't think im afraid of anything at all.

two. i love passion, something that you can devote yourself entirely to.

three. if i could be absolutely anything, i would like to be something that we can't even comprehend exists, just so i can have peace of mind that i haven't been ripped off and this is really all there is :)

i hope my answers didn't disappoint!

Friday

smoke rings

that first picture there was just a quick lighting test, i don't remember the name of the band. the second one is my boyfriend's band, midnight horizon. they played at the bring it on festival in fairfield, on this stage outside, and also, on an acoustic stage, but it wasn't pretty so i wans't inspired to take photos :P

so i've been listening to the dead weather a lot lately. its jack white's new project and i think its pretty cool. the only two things playing on my ipod on the way to work in the city now is the dead weather & grizzly bear. i've been trying to find some new music though, and its going pretty good so far.. i just need a whole weekend or a couple of days where im home with nothing to do, to be able to just go through cds and lists and have the time to listen to different things. so far im having no such luck with the free time thing though, which is a good and bad thing all at the same time.

last night i got to shoot the cast members of wicked with some of the cast members from twilight who went to watch the show. it was pretty fun, and such a random thing for me to do! i was covering for my boss who is in melbourne shooting at the moment.

other than that, my creative shoots have died down a little since uni started and retouching work has been piling up. i've been really concentrating on passing my drivers license test (and i did) but it took up so much of my time! this saturday we're going to a car market to see if we can find anything for me, and if we do, im going to start shooting a hell of a lot - creative shoots and FINALLY some live band photography! of someone other than my boyfriend's band haha - who are a lot of fun to shoot, but i need something else for my portfolio.

anyway,  hope you're all doing well. i still have photos from a shoot i did not long ago to upload, so i'll get around to that soon. and also to taking some new photos :)

Saturday

eavesdropping

so im in between things.

this morning i was washing the dishes, thinking how some mornings i wake up wondering what the hell i am doing with my life and some mornings i wake up and think i am exactly where i want to be.  its never halfway though, for some reason.

but anywho. i fell in love with grizzly bear (have been listening to them for two days straight now) and i feel inspired to take in between, lovely and dangerous photos after watching crazy/beautiful & the virgin suicides last night. i want my pictures to look like film stills sometimes.

i was wondering if you have watched any movies that have inspired you? i know there are many amazing ones that i've seen already like alice in wonderland, amelie, pans labyrinth and things along those lines, but i want to see more! suggestions? :)

i am also buying a 35mm holga camera off ebay, i think i'll buy it tomorrow night and start a series of film photos of nothing when it arrives.

anyway, i felt like actually writing something in my blog for once. i never usually have anything insteresting to say, today a little bit included. hopefully tomorrow i'll have some photos for you all, im going to a little music festival! i also still have photos from a peter pan shoot i did the day after this luna park one to upload, i've just been busy.

Monday

the rocking horse

this is carly zinga, she is fifteen years old. she is an amazingly talented dancer, i have some movement shots that i still need to sort through, and i'll upload some of those later on as well.

for now, these are inbetweens, the type of photos that i loved to take from the beginning, but somehow lost along the way. i need to relearn how to take rushing photos of people, the way i take photos of the landscape running backwards when im riding in a car. i like that sort of feel to things, imperfect.

these photos have that though, and i love them :) hope you do too!

Tuesday

and we were driving past the sea

we walked on the beach and it was cloudy but bright and charlie kept eating seaweed and charging towards me when i tried to take a photo of him. then it started raining and by the time i got home i was soaked but walking in the rain makes me happy for some reason. its like my own personal "ten minutes of sunshine keeps you naturally happy".

by the way, i don't think a single day can pass where i don't look or think or take a photo of clouds. i think they are quite the spectacular things. dan was saying that i should write a biography and that all it would be is pictures of clouds. a good idea, i think :)

so we were driving through the countryside

roadtrip.

i like taking photos from car windows, you don't have time to think about what you're taking a photo of, no time to change your settings or to compose something perfect. you take photos of the world flying past you and don't have time to think about it, so they come out exactly as it is, imperfect but beautiful. they are a memory and they are rushed but also take time. running past, but standing still.

floral boots and confetti

these are mostly outtakes from our colourful confetti shoot today. the model is my best friend sam.

the first and third ones are my new boots (dr martens!) that came in the mail today! when the doorbell rang i was frantically running around the house looking for my keys cos i knew they were my shoessss. im going to start a floral shoe collection. shoes down: two.

Monday

musicoz, 2010

oh, finally i can get around to blogging about this! i've been so excited about this job and about showing everyone pictures, but ever since i shot the musicoz awards, i've been so so busy.

so i applied about last year as a volunteer photographer (as are most live gigs) and never heard a reply so i just forgot about it. about three days before the actual event happened though, i get an email from the person who organises the volunteer section for the night and asks if i want to shoot the musicoz awards! (which, for those who don't know, is australia's biggest music awards for independent artists) and of course i said yes.

when i got there, i was basically just shooting the red carpet with a few other photographers for a couple of hours, which is pretty straight forward and a little boring, but the photos need to be taken!

then we went inside and got to watch the entire musicoz awards, got to see who won what and got to watch and shoot all the performances. i put one picture of almost every performance that there was and in order of my posting, from top to bottom we have: the ballerina stage performance for divine mechanism, sarah smith of radio ink, peter northcote who played a guitar solo which was pretty cool, jesse emmanuel, jack carty and the final perfomers of the night, the jezabels.

all in all i think it was a pretty great day/night, i met some pretty awesome photographers and could definitely get used to doing it more often!
